Get Motivated!

20180309_144024Like everyone, I do have some low-key days when I just don’t want to do anything.Sometimes there is a reason but most of the time its nothing. It’s perfectly normal to feel down but it’s YOU who has to lift your self up.It doesn’t matter how much busy you are, get at least 1 hour for yourself.

Here things I love to do for myself.

Start Your Day Positively: Try to wake up as early as possible, I don’t know about other people but if I wake up late like after 9 Am it would be one of my least productive day for sure.Start your day with prayers and be Thankful for the life.

Have a Positive Start: If you think positive it will surely move on you positively. As someone said you can not live a positive life with a negative mind, I totally agreed.

Plan Your Day: Do your chores done as soon as possible, It makes you stress-free  trust me.For example,Making my bed as soon I am off to bed, automatically makes my home clean.

Take a Bath and Dressed up: If I am feeling down, I try to get my basic chores done as soon as possible. I mostly  sprinkle my bath salt and have a long spa bath.Bath salt relaxes and takes my stress out.Dress up myself nicely and put some makeup on.By doing this, my day surely productive and better than being a couch potato in my PJs whole day.

Get Some ME Time: As home stayed mom I don’t have much social life.My life revolves around my kids. It’s very important for everyone including myself to get some ME time to get the sh*t out.I love to go for window shopping alone, mostly Home goods / Thrift stores and get inspired. If I don’t have time to go out ,I just put my favorite face mask on and relax.

Give Yourself a Gift: I live for flowers and I can die as well, it automatically lift your mood on at least mine.I get my flowers whenever I go for grocery, it’s cheaper than buying from a flower shop.I am not asking to buy brand named expensive stuff and break your bank. For me ,buying an ice cream is a treat to yourself to enjoy.

Be Creative: Do whatever you like, I normally motivate my self by doing a DIY or some crafting even making a new recipe lift my mood up.

Be Gentle: For yourself and for others, do not take things to your heart.Trust me I used to be a very sensitive person(still I am), I had been taken things to my heart without saying and being hurt for several days.It did nothing just hurting my own self, shattered and depressed. I have learned that Just Forget and Move on.Mistakes can happen and it’s you who has to learn, you can’t teach/force anyone.

If you don’t have something to say positive, it’s better to say nothing.Encourage people around you and motivate them as well.

Happy Friday guys..its last day of March break, hope you have a good one!!

DIY Wall Hanging

20171219_142843

Yarn love continues….Yes, I admit, I wanted to knit like my mom and I tried and got failed. After, I thought( or should I say wanted )to make/ DIY a wall hanging or tapestry with the yarn I already have!!

20171218_101515

It’s cheap and easy but a time taking project.Let’s start!!

I used,

A Dowel(From any craft / Home Hardware store)

Yarn of your choice colors( I used off-white, Orange, and Green)

Brass Rings.

Scissors

20171218_101840

Start with the base color I used off-white and cut it to the desired size. Now fold 4 equal lengths in half and drape it over the dowel.Pull the knot and make it tighten /secured.I made almost 26 equal lengths of base colored yarn.

20171219_100650

Step 2 is little tricky, I used two gold ring and hang it with a string of yarn in the middle.I used orange yarn and tied the same four strings of (shorter ) length and make a knot with the same I did with base color.

20171219_111857.jpg

Make a side knot to attach both rings and continue till You fill the space.I used almost same 10 knots with same (4×2)method.

20171219_122508

I Finished the project by using Green yarn, cut the excess length. You can even cut diagonal, not a hard and fast measuring rule.

20171219_122448.jpg

Viola!!!love how it turns out.I used the yarn according to my decor, you can use colors of your choice. It easy and affordable but definitely a statement piece in my living room.

Deodorize Your Home!

Desi food is no doubt delicious but the strong smell of food even with kitchen exhaust on never welcome your guest to step in.Even  I don’t have party or guest invited  I always made some DIY or light up scented candles as soon as I finish cooking especially during winter when all windows need to be closed, zero ventilation because we have our heating on almost six months or over.

Let’s discuss, what I do!!

Method: 1

Home Made Stove Pot Pourri

Stovetop  Pot-pourri is my favorite DIY to deodorized my kitchen, Its absorb all the aroma of the strong smell of fish, spices/Turmeric etc.

I do make it often but need to change every week as fresh fruit gets rotten. It’s easy and budget-friendly, all you need following ingredients in Mason Jar.

20170409_104928

Lime and Lemon: 1 each

Cinnamon stick: 2

Bay Leaves: 1-2

Rosemary leaves: 3-4

Mint Leaves:1/2 Bunch

Star Anise ( Badiyan )

Cut all citrus fruits into thick slices.Take any mason/glass jar, Remove lid from the cap of the Mason jar with the ring on.

20170409_105132

Set All dry ingredient inside, Add fruit slices.Place this jar near the stove, you all set to go!!I love the aroma of citrus Rosemary near my stove, it helps eliminate the strong smell.

20170409_105123

If you don’t have Mason Jar, take any glass jar and drill small holes or even take the lid out.Change your potpourri every other week and enjoy Citrus  Rosemary while you cook.

Method: 2

Scented Candles:

21463321_10155411914345791_7579488290599141764_n

I love lightening up Candles, easy and affordable. If you remember I DIY one Here.

20171112_175019

It’s easy to make but if you don’t have ingredients, store-bought also a hit.I love to buy candles and I have them around my house.

From Drab to Fab!

Winter brings dry fruits, dry skin and sweaters.I don’t like Canadian winter much but  love sweaters, shawls and cardigans. I am OK to go for neutral and warm tones for myself but for kids, A Big NO!!!I always want bright and fun colors for them, but it’s really hard to find winter stuff if your kid is tween.

24174334_10155633859695791_3573478765061482084_n

This Turtle neck sweater was so boring and dull for a Tween girl..I thought to give it a quick lift and make it trendy. You can update your outdated boring outfit/ sweatshirt by adding some colorful pom-pom in just 10 minutes.so You can say its a “10 minute Challenge”…so Get ,set and GO!!

Laundry Folder (DIY)

I always used to hate laundry when I  was back home. Here, we have automatic machines fortunately but still…I am lazy….. folding and ironing both are time taking tasks.A family with three active kids, My laundry basket is always full even a minute after I finished my last load.

I was looking for the laundry folder but couldn’t find in store anywhere affordable.I checked online and it’s almost $20 plus shipping. After watching some tutorials online, I made one…A simple and cheap…Let’s start!

20171117_112248

I got sink Mats from the dollar store and make one under 10 (Less).I bought 6 sink mats and duct tape. The size of the mat is approximately 9 inches x 12 inches.

20171117_113443.jpg

Place sink mats in order to 2×3, I attached the duct tape in order like the picture below.Make sure you tape individually so the mat can be foldable, follow the number and directions.

23905645_10155616280630791_4817123211244701827_nIt’s really easy to make, just use a strong tape and that’s it, your very own laundry folder is ready.

Place shirt in the middle of the mat, then fold right side first. Now flip the left side, and finally the 5th mat to complete the fold. Its so easy even your kids can do it.My 5-year-old Bilal love to help.

You can make with card boxes, you need 6 same sized cardboards.Cut the desired equal size and that’s it.

20171121_133840.jpg

See how easy to fold shirts in seconds, It took almost less than half time I normally spent without it.Make one and ask your kids to fold their own.20171121_133910.jpgI am sure you will love and have a huge relief after.Make one and Enjoy your most hated chores (Like me).

Tie & Dyed Tangerine Cushion

I admit It was one of my wish to have a “Tie and Dyed” custom piece in my home.I had so many Tie and Dyed dupattas even Saree in my Jehaz and I just love to have them.It was done by professional  Rungraz back home (sadly we don’t have such services here).I couldn’t wear plain Dupatay/ scarf, and no clue why I am like that!

I am so excited! I’ve made my very own Tie and Dyed cushion, and yes it is a great success!! Are you ready!!

20171118_130336.jpgI used powdered Dye in “Tangerine Orange”, it’s a small pack of 50 gm.Liquid dye is easy to use but it’s expensive so I thought let’s try this small packet first if it gets fail I will stop dreaming about it…make sense right!

let’s start!

20171116_105143.jpg

Fabric Dye (Liquid /powdered)

Fabric( cotton/canvas )

Stainless steel Bowl/Bucket

Rubber Bands

Gloves

Salt

Prepare your fabric first, I was making two 12×20 pillows so I cut the fabric accordingly.Fold the fabric and start tying it with a rubber band.Tie and until the end of the fabric.

20171116_112504.jpgwear your gloves and cover the surface.Boil water now pour the hottest water to any stainless(spare) steel bowl Since the dye is not food grade so you won’t be able to use it for food after. Mix hand full of salt, I would say about 3-4 Tbs and Dye powder to water mix well.

20171116_115222

Now Dip the tied fabric into the Dye and dip it with the help of a tong.Leave fabric about 40 mins, rotate fabric in meantime.

20171116_122819

Rinse fabric until the water clears out, now add salt to cold water and dip this fabric for 20 mins to fix the dye.Now untie the fabric and remove the rubber band.

20171117_004852

Let it air dry it, It was so cold outside that’s why I hang fabric in my laundry room overnight.I ironed it and made cushions similar to this one. Its simple and required basic sewing skills.

20171118_125725

This Tie and Dyed cushions are perfect for  Accent chairs I bought recently from Target USA for my living room.

20171118_130408

Isn’t look good? It’s so easy and so much fun DIY. Now I am more confident to try some new things/Projects… Stay tuned!!

Pillars

20171115_101657

I opened the chain and cut the desired size( almost 18 cm) out and add Jump/End ring .Now separate few segments from the chain.

Take a pom-pom and insert an Eye-pin and carefully lock it down from the sharp side with the help of pillars.

20171115_104936

Attach the Pom-pom with the help of chain segment to that(inserted) Eye-pin.Use any color or pattern.I used some funky colored pom-pom.You can always mix and match.

20171115_143028

It’s so much fun to wear it, I would definitely make more for my self and to give as a gift.If you don’t find Eye-pins, You can easily attach it to matching color thread.

I did one to explain to you how to with thread. All you need to stitch /attach the segment with help of thread to the pom-pom and then attach that segment to the chain.

I showed you guys the body butter, I got from Winner’s but I need to use a scrub to get rid dead skin especially during my bath.I made my own sugar scrub and I  highly recommended you to make one for your self.It exfoliates dead cells and you feel the difference after a single use.

20171106_180026

You Will Need!

White Cane Sugar:1/2 cup

Brown or Golden sugar:1/2 cup

Coconut oil: 5-6 Tbs

Grounded Coffee: 1/4 cup

Vanilla Essence:1 Tbs

Cinnamon: 1 Stick (Optional )

Glass Jars

20171106_180749.jpg

Mix white and golden sugar together, Add coconut oil gradually and check the consistency of the scrub.Coconut oil should be at room temperature, so it should be combined with sugar and give a rich buttery texture.Add coffee and Vanilla essence, Don’t  add too much coffee.Mix everything well, add cinnamon grated or powder.

20171106_175137.jpg

I didn’t melt coconut oil and Mix everything well and store in a glass jar.You can store up to 8 weeks at room temperature or up to three months if you keep in the fridge . If you scoop it up, you will feel the sugar grain.Rub the scrub on your skin even on your face, it will remove dead skin and give you a glow.(Azmaiyash shart hy ).

Molds/ice-cube Tray

Mix first four dry ingredients in any glass bowl and remove all lumps.Melt coconut oil in microwave and mix it slowly  with the help of fork. Now add any essential oil (I used lavender essential oil)and food color, mix well. Now add water but Dont use water so quickly ,it will start fizzing.

received_10155568565900791Take a bath bomb or an ice-cube mold, press the mixture on one half and then do the same with other half now join the mold and leave it over night .Making a bath bomb in  a mold is little tricky as it can crack when you open ,if it does !!rub oil on your palm and shape with the hand. Its more easy to use to use ice cube mold tray.Gently press the mixture and leave it over night or 6-8 hours.

DIY Gold & White Basket

22861718_10155551252135791_4697476998440994468_oIf I say  I love spray paints,it’s so so true just because I want instant results (I am Be-sabari soul..lol).It’s so simple and easy,Just hold a spray paint and get an entirely new look.

20171017_135309

Few days ago,I showed you guys my Hair pin legs bench and you can see entire post Here. I promised to tell you guys about the white Rattan basket that I got from a local consignment store(You can take your old ones too) and I love the shape and you know what, its brand new and tag were still on.

20171013_132216

Honestly speaking,It was plain and Boring and I didn’t like “as it  was”much.I wanted to do something different that give a lift. I  love the gold metallic spray paint ,just shake and use it . It has primer so you don’t need anything to use before or even after.

20171013_134131.jpg

I wanted to paint the lower portion so I taped the upper half and covered it with newspaper.I always cover the floor or surface with a plastic sheet or newspaper /flyers whenever I use paints.Give a good shake and spray from distance of approx 10-15 cm for a good coverage.

20171013_135350.jpg

Leave it for an hour or so and do another coat if required.I left it over night and let it dry completely.Oh yes!! I forgot to tell you I painted the handles as well.

20171017_135317

Its big enough to hold my kids toys or even blankets and extra cushions .I love spray paints and you don’t even need any skills(advanced) for this technique.Let me know if I missed something!

DIY Hairpin Legs Bench

20171017_135341Well….its been a while I made this Hair Pin Leg Bench for my entryway.I made this bench in early spring and then we got busy in vacations and I didn’t get time to write a post about it.Now after getting so many compliments and people ask me how did I make it so here you go…It easy but Little bit costly as Hairpin legs are not cheap but kind of affordable and easy to DIY (with help of husband).

20171017_135309

We don’t have a big foyer but always need something to sit on to tie my shoes and go.I love Hairpin Legs so much and ordered  online at Rusty Design Canada , these 2-rod Hairpin legs 16″ came in set of 4.I love them as it is. They are raw iron and easy to attached.

20170515_102054

I asked my husband to attach the Hairpin legs to the base of the seat/bench(I already had). I didn’t paint the legs and like them as it is but never know I will paint some day. When legs are attached its easy to add foam and batting.

20170515_103153.jpgI attached the foam with wooden base with adhesive spray and then staple the batting and fabric down with staple gun.I used the knitted fabric that actually I brought from a garage sale 2 years ago .I toss some cushions and a throw and its perfect for my entryway.

20171017_135317

DIY Hanging Plant Shelf

I am really obsessed with the yarn and jute these days. Making Tussles/ Pom- poms is my favorite hobby .I am so excited to show the final result of a project I posted on Facebook page last week,Its one of my favorite and quick DIY with limited supplies  I have done so far.

20171019_140010

I wanted a hanging planter, either a macramé ones or just a plastic ones for my Master Bedroom.I even tried to DIY some macrame but didnt like them much.I made this super easy DIY wooden plate hanging planter like a pro.Love it !

20171013_135906

Supplies Needed

Wooden plate/Saucer

Yarn or Twine

Wooden Beads.

I used my staple gun and a key  ring.

20171013_140931

All You need to do is roughly cut two 40 inch yarn pieces, make an X and place wooden plate over it. I stapled it down like this, now grab all the four pieces and tie a knot. You can cut the yarn in desired lenght ,Tie a knot 5 inches away from the end of the yarn .Add a wooden bead, tie another knot above the bead.

20171013_143053

I added wooden bead, make another knot and tie a loop or attach a key ring .I glued the open yarn string ,and complete it by adding another smaller wooden bead.

20171013_160654

For the bottom I finished by adding a tussle, you can make a contrasting color or whatever you like.I simply wrap the same colored yarn on a small card/wallet and make a tussle (will do a tutorial how to make tussles and pom-pom).I Tied the tussle and hang it in my bedroom

20171019_140010

I just love this simple and quick DIY .I added a plant pot and It look amazingly great and refreshing.

20171019_135933

If you like can  paint or stain the wooden saucer, but I love this as it is!!

DIY Birthday Party Garland

Its Abdullah’s Birthday this weekend ,so its party time.Yay…!!!!It means I need to plan ,decorate and entertain bunch of kids in a budget. Its always hard to decorate/make anything for boys either its for their room or planning a birthday party. I thought to make a garland banner thats so simple but time taking.I already make a banner for Ramadan/Eid ,you can check DIY Ramadan Banner here.

All You need Gift Tissue papers,I got from Dollar Tree.I brought 1 pack of 25 sheets of multi colored sheets.

20171013_181254.jpg

Take one sheet out, fold it in half, cut longitudinal but Not all the way up.

20171013_175451.jpg

Unfold the paper and you will get the fringes on both sides, just twist paper from one end to the other end.I am showing through pictures, hopefully you get it.

20171013_175737

Twist it all the way up,fold in half again

20171013_175804

Now twist it and tape it to make a loop, add twine or jute and tie it on a loop.Make as many you want.

20171013_175848

I made different colored garland, you can use whatever pattern you like.I simply attached with jute (I didnt have twine)at that time with the loop I made.

20171014_122110Its very easy ,You can ask your kids to help  and make pattern for you.

Grow Tomatoes In Your Kitchen Garden

I really don’t know where did September go, we are having some confused weather here.Turning heat on one day and other day we need to turn the AC on but I always love  the fresh air coming right from my back yard door.I always enjoy the back view of my home no matter whats the weather outside.

Every spring/summer we(Me & my husband) go to local nursary and I always buy some vegetables and some potting plants esp roses, although we  dont have much days to enjoy them but still love this activity every year.We didn’t plant much  vegetable except tomatoes this year because we had a very busy summer.Every day I get a basket full of Cherry Tomatoes and Roma Tomatoes, they are so juicy and fresh.

22089267_10155474398450791_2236800052795098572_nEverybody including my friends were telling me about shortage/rise of tomatoes prices in local market in Pakistan.Even I saw some jokes on social media to get bank loans to buy over priced tomatoes…lol…joke apart!!

I thought to share some personal tips  to grow your own vegetables like tomatoes ,pepper, and herbs like mint and cilantro ,that are so easy to plant and yes they are organic right in your own kitchen/balcony and most important super cheap.

You can plant tomatoes in small yard or even in a large pot.It simple and easy and you don’t need much effort or hassle.

22089495_10155474398135791_1618306518209496869_nWeather of South Asia is so perfect and it is the easiest vegetable I have ever planted.Normally I buy small plant (Paniyri) but few years back I harvested them right from the seed.It takes 4 weeks to get plants from the seed .

22137282_10155475287780791_1893527378158052920_oYou can DIY and get your seeds by Sun dried method..All you need to do is keep the seedy portion in sunlight for 3 days, when it dried completely ,plant it 1/2 inch soil down in the planting pot.Water the plant twice a week and keep that pot in door at room temperature till you get them out of the seed and see those little leaves. Now need to put it outside either in your yard or Balcony where you get maximum sun light and that it…Don’t forget to tie it or use tomato cages to support.

22196443_10155474398575791_2507942873175650916_nYou will get so many from just one plant that fair enough to use for your daily use and it is so fresh and tasty and make your dish more tasty as compare you get from local sabzi wala and you don’t even know the soil and water he used to plant them.We only get hot days couple of month but I love home-grown vegetables .

You can use the same method for dried coriander to get cilantro/ Hara Dhania, same as Mint and chili pepper .Both are prefect and can be grown in a small to large pot. That’s actually my husband’s hobby and we both enjoy it alot and share with friends too our home grown fresh vegetable .Do share what you like to grow?

My DIY Denim Experiment

Nothing can  made me happier than getting good stuff on sale but some times I buy stuff and realize after I brought exact same thing again just because it’s at clearance .It happened last week when I scored exactly same pair of jeans at 70% off  for my daughter Aleeza . I couldn’t resist to leave it at that clearance price..lol.

I wanted to change the shade at least, so she will enjoy two different pants …Bleached jeans are hot trend and quite costly as compare to normal jeans /denim. . ..I had fabric dye in my  mind as back up plan if bleaching technique got failed (gonna dye something soon) BUT I got great result and thought to share  this easy DIY with you guys with affordable method or should I say cheapest.

I used her older one to try on this method. You can also use your older or most hated one just in case you have a failure… (I am keeping my self on safer side…😉)

21687510_10155454552325791_3064833289325342633_n.jpg

Wear your gloves since the bleach has harsh chemicals that will damage your skin and try to do in ventilated area.Place the pants in a plastic bucket or basin filled with a gallon of warm water and a 1/2 cup of bleach.

If your jeans is ripped (like mine) try not to do that part it will damaged the denim and results will be awful.

20170920_104119.jpgI only wanted lower portion down the knees to be bleached,I folded the jeans and take the upper portion out and dipped the desire part for about 45 mins than  dipped the 1 inch more down to the bleach since I wanted to give a ombre. If you want lighter shade leave it for another half an hour but dont extend time time more than 2 hours it will damage the fiber and life span.

When you are done with your desire shade, dip it in Apple Cider vinegar  or white vinegar to stop the bleaching process. It not only stops but also fixes the bleaching dye.Dip the jeans for 5 mins than wash it in your washer at normal setting with out ” detergent”.Run the whole cycle.

21768434_10155454552360791_4178950395153676699_n.jpg

I air-dried in my back yard and iron it as usual…just follow the instructions and you will get your very own desired shade…….If you have an old pair of jeans try it,you will love it….your very own trendy jeans ready to wear…Let me know If you experiment something that worth sharing. ..!

Painting My Kitchen Cabinets(Final Steps)

Hi There,

Updating furniture or especially cabinets need so much details but Kitchen is kind of high traffic area, stain and grime are part of it.I wanted something that is easy to use, stain resistant and yes Affordable and last but not least…Long lasting results!!

Benjamin Moore has all qualities i was looking for…it doesnt need top coat because it is especially designed for cabinets but it definitely needs sanding and a good primer.I explained sanding before here Painting My Kitchen Cabinets (Step 1)

..Let’s start about step 2,after prepare surface i.e,sanding now you need to prime your surafce.I choose water based primer Zinsser 123 Bull Eye ,it is one of the best primer I have ever used. You can use any water based primer.received_10155189874490791.jpeg

I was painting my pine cabinet so I did two coats of primers.I applied primer with 2″ brush and used some rollers strokes.Primer is thicker than paint so a small dip goes long way.Wait between coats,It took normally 3-4 hours .Primer actually acts like glue between the surface and the paint. If you are painting from darker color or wood to some lighter shade, primer acts as “base coat”.It gives a base to your cabinet for a better paint coverage.

received_10155189728385791.jpegI lightly sanded between primer coats where ever necessary especially  where I used wood filler. Now the surface is ready to paint,I used Benjamin Moore Advance paint in “AF-80 Jute” in pearl finish. Its rich creamy shade gives one stroke a smooth shade.I applied 3 coats with 2″ paint brush and foam roller,I waited at least 4 hours between the coats.received_10155189728370791

When paint is fully dried, put the cabinets back  to their right place after 2-3 days.I didnt apply any top coat since this BM advance paint is especially designed for cabinets and doesn’t need any top coat.20170410_102417

When your cabinets are done wait one week to put  your hard ware on.I changed my hardware and some of them were different size so I had to drill the new holes and I filled up the old ones with wood filler.Do your drill and hard ware a week after you finished your paint job. I highly recommend  you to use Benjamin Moore Advance ( by the way…it’s not a sponsor post in any way)  its easy to clean and has very smooth coverage. If you can not find this brand ask your retailer to give you a paint that has low VOC (Volatile Organic compound) and especially designed for cabinet and furniture.

I tried my best to cover each step but if you need to know more just leave a message, I love to help you guys….If you are intending to change your cabinet color…Go ahead it’s not hard at all..but worth to try…..Trust ME!!

Father’s Day DIY Mug

I do love DIY  and customize everything as much as possible. Aleeza is just like  me she loves to create and DIY too.She asked me if we can make something for her Baba for Father’s day.

We went to the craft store and got a mug and some sharpie pens (Permanent Markers). You can make it for Teacher’s day,Mother’s day even for any day….Get the quote and be creative..😊

We made a DIY sharpie pen mug which is super easy ,She made herself but since we have to use oven  so I helped her out.(Adult Supervision is Required)

20170617_172952.jpg

You need just two things.

A mug (oven safe)

Sharpie markers of  choice.

Draw free hand on your mug , what ever you  want to quote/draw make  a draft on a paper.

20170617_173036.jpgWhen you finish writing put it on an oven, and turn on after 375°F for 30-35 mins.Dont preheat it,you need to put it in cold oven let the art set while temp goes up.

20170617_174403

After 30 mins turn off the oven and leave  the mug inside and let it cool with the oven. This process Fixes the text/art whatever you draw on the mug.

Painting My Kitchen Cabinets (Step 1)

Hi All,

I know its more than month since I posted my kitchen makeover reveal ,I wanted to write down everything right away but back to back other things hooked me up.I got a reminder email from a follower and I felt so guilty for not keeping my promise on time…anyhow, Lets talk about how I start painting my kitchen cabinets, Trust me before starting my kitchen renovation ,I was so scared ,will it look good?or I will be going to ruin everything, should I begin or not? What to do ?leave or go for it…its not a small room if it gets ruined and I  shut the door off….I would say  If my husband didn’t allow me, I had zero courage to even think about it..seriously! !..Thanks to him for Trusting me!….😊

Before I  start the longest procedure of my kitchen Renovation..I want to let you guys know I am not an expert .All content are based on my experience  and I am sharing what so ever I know to make it simple for people who are newbie like me and love DIY.

If you are a beginner or like me who learnt by own experiences plus failures here are some basics of painting furniture or cabinet I learned by my own experience.Doing my kitchen cabinets was not my first experience at all,I already had my hand into so many projects.I update several furniture  pieces.weather you are going to chalk paint ,stain or just doing any paint job, prepare the surface first. The  more  you prepare your surface, more you  get your job well done.

20170121_222950.jpg

When I  start my kitchen cabinets, they were in  very good condition.I used to wipe them every day since my cabinets are “Shaker style”(panelled) and need more cleaning  than other flat cabinet. I used TSP (Trisodium Phosphate )to clean them properly, I used a knife to remove dirt and especially  flour from sides of panels.Wipe them properly  ,I used Windex for extra cleaning.I removed cabinet doors and mark them with frog tape as upper and lower cabinet (U1 /L1 and so on),remove the hardware and put everything in a ziplock  bag,so you get everything when you need to put the doors back after you finish painting.20170205_234050.jpg

Use frog tape for labeling them,it will be easy for you to put everything back.My cabinet remained open for more than 1 month for sure like this.20170205_234018

It was wide opened and easy accessible for kids and they were happy ……lol

I took off upper cabinet first and when they were completed ,I started doing my lower  cabinets.I did everything down stairs in the basement except the cabinets frames and sides. After removing  hardware and cleaning the most toughest and time-consuming step ,preparing the surface i.e sanding!

20170206_130707.jpg

Sanding is very important step,it makes surface ready to get painted. I used 120 grit sand paper and give a really good sanding  so that top coat or previous finish is removed. You can use sanding machine but I preferred  hand sanding more . The more you prepare your  surface the more smooth finish your cabinets will  get. Its quite dusty process so cover ourself by having a mask, when you sand your cabinets make sure clean your cabinets with wipes or if you have a  vacuum ,use hose to clean it faster.Wipe the cabinets off with Lysol wipes.

20170206_130551.jpg

If you need to change your hardware, you have to use wood filler.I used wood filler to fill the holes.sand the surface with sand paper. You need to prepare it otherwise paint wont stick or cracked .

20170329_130845.jpg

This wood filler changes color from purple to white when it dries up,sand it down and make it smooth.Any holes and damages can be  easily filled by the wood filler.

All types of sanding paper and wood filler are easily available at home hardware stores like Home Depot and Lowe’s.

This is first part of painting procedure of my kitchen cabinet….I  was asked to share step by step  painting process because so many people want to  update their kitchen and trust me it’s not hard at all and you will love it after…FOR SURE! !

DIY Ramadan Banner

Ramadan Mubarak Everyone.

We just had our first Iftar…its pretty long day ,weather is really nice so it’s not that tough for fasting almost 17 hours.People do compliant about fasting hours during summer time but we are blessed we  don’t have any major problems like load shading or any sort of shortage of basic needs but days are still really long especially  for kids who are fasting especially during their schools.

Apart of these facilities  we don’t have that environment ,we have full and regular school and job timings.we “have” to make that environment  with religious spirit that I totally miss when I used to live back home Pakistan before I got married.we have to creat that ” Noorani Mahol” (I don’t find that typical or appropriate word rightnow ) since we are living in a non muslim country but we are very much respected  by our non muslim fellows and neighbors .They do respect our religion and even help us in anyways.

Today kids were fasting and got bored so I asked them if they want  to do some Ramadan decor with me ,so they would  get off their eyes from gadgets since it was raining and they can’t go out and play…they are already very excited and I want them to encourage and feel that religious spirit that totally missed here..We went to Dollarma and brought some craft and decor items.

18814217_10155088265045791_6852094909714932786_n

I made a DIY Ramadan banner with kids…..you just need some craft paper ,scissors, glue or self adhesive cards and twine.

18700261_10155088264985791_3317654055753656684_n.jpg

Just fold the square shiny paper in half and cut the triangle .I made 13 different colored triangles, for two banners.I used glitter self adhesive card paper and simply cut in different fun shape and stick to the center of  your triangles.

DIY Chicken Wire Message/Bulletin Board

My kids asked me to go Dollar stores every other day, whenever I go there find some thing that give me an idea to make some quick DIYs .My son Abdullah often complains I don’t make any thing for his room as much I do at Aleeza room.Boy”s room are really hard to decorate.Last week I stopped at Dollarama there were tons of spring and Garden decor items ,they will be disappear within few days.

Chicken wire was on my list, during my kitchen Reno trips to Home Depots I often thought to get it but I forgot to buy .I was surprised when I saw them at Dollarama a whole roll for just $3.You may find it any hardware store easily.20170514_133114.jpg

Lets makes a 10 mins craft, all you need a big frame without glass and staple gun.I already have staple guns.If you want a light duty staple gun ,You may find at Dollarama too. Some times I am so surprised when I got things for more dollars and I got to see them In Dollarma,May be they are not for heavy duty work but for beginners that are good.

Unframed your picture frame and remove the glass, paint it if you like with spray paint.Cut the desire size of chicken wire with wire cutter or scissors.Staple the chicken wire on the back of the frame, twist the cut wire and fold and staple down .

20170514_134752Make sure to twist the sharp edges and staple it down so that kids won’t hurt there tiny finger.20170514_134129.jpg

Flip it over and adjust the the chicken wire, add your kid’s art work and souvenir  etc.It is super easy ,you can use for hanging jewelry etc.
